Institute publishes Fargo, Wagner paper on criminal libel

The International Press Institute released “Criminal Libel in the United States,” by center director  Anthony Fargo and Indiana University School of Journalism doctoral student A.Jay Wagner, on its website Oct. 23.
The report examines criminal libel as it has been used to “quell dissent and sustain power,” and as it has been used to dispel argument among private citizens.
Fargo and Wagner both have worked for IPI, Fargo in his capacity as director of the center, and Wagner as an intern for the Vienna, Austria-based IPI. The center also is providing legal expertise and analysis in support of IPI’s ongoing Campaign to Repeal Criminal Defamation in the Caribbean.
